The Lussh // Stylish Brisbane Wedding Venue

a historic building, exquisitely renovated and transformed into a chic Brisbane wedding venue

With a colourful history and an incredibly aesthetic interior, The Lussh is one of Brisbane’s most stylish wedding venues.

To give you a little history, the building was constructed in 1925 and was designed as a meeting lodge for a community based men’s club that originated in England. Throughout the years, the building has had an interesting history, including a brief period as a Heavy Metal nightclub.

This character-filled space is now in the care of Maree Henry, the founder of women’s fashion label, Dissh. Maree discovered the beautiful old building while searching for a photography studio for Dissh and it captured her imagination, she knew it would be an incredible base to create something extraordinary. With a passion for design and creative spaces, Maree had the vision to transform The Lussh, formerly The Lushington into the amazing venue it is today.

The Lussh is a collection of beautiful spaces within a statuesque 2 storey building in Woolloongabba, minutes from the city. With 4 metre high ceilings, polished concrete floors and a generous amount of character, the building had a solid foundation to build upon. After extensive renovations The Lussh is now full of aesthetic features, most notably it’s signature arches, including an arched bar with a tiled terrazzo bar area that flows out through the steel framed glass doors to the paved terrace and garden.

The outdoor area is framed by cliffs sprouting vertical gardens on one side and dramatic date palms on the other, it feels like an oasis in the middle of the city. Once you open the incredible glass doors, add some festoon lighting and live music, the indoor and outdoor spaces blend seamlessly and become the perfect setting for a great party, comfortably fitting 400 people for a cocktail reception. Open air dance floor under the city lights anyone?

However, if an elegant sit down dinner is more your style, you’re also in the right place, The Lussh can accomodate 200 people seated and with room for a dance floor. The garden area is not only a lovely setting for drinks and canapés, it’s also a stunning ceremony location, with the cliffs making an impressive backdrop. Having everything at one location keeps things stress-free and simple for you and your guests, ensuring a great vibe.

Even with all its stunning design features, one of our favourite things about The Lussh is the wonderful team who run it. Shout out to our pals Sophie and Eloise and of course the wonderful Maree. It is always such a pleasure to work with these incredibly, hard-working and fun-loving humans.

They even have a couple of quick tips for couples planning their wedding…

“Work with a wedding planner there are so many facets to bringing the wedding day together it can be logistically and emotionally challenging!
Really think about what is important to you as a couple and keep that in focus, don’t get lost in the process.
Keep calm, enjoy the journey, so much goes into planning the wedding and the actual day can go so quickly.
Remember to breath! Take time on the day to sit back with your partner and just appreciate the magical moment, all the family and friends that are there with you to celebrate what we hope will be one of the best days of your life.”

One final point, we have it on good authority that the renovations are not quite complete, there are still some exciting new developments ahead for The Lussh and we cannot wait to see this incredible space continue to evolve.
