Tall Poppy // Christie Nicole Bridal Editorial
moody bridal photoshoot at Fort Lytton
From time to time we get the opportunity to collaborate with likeminded creatives, purely for the purpose of creating and honestly it is pretty wonderful.
I (Jessie) am obsessed with poppies and desperately wanted to feature them in an editorial shoot while they were in peak season (September - October), thankfully the wonderful Maddie of Maddie Jayde Floral Design could make my dreams come true and was able to source the most perfect and enormous bouquet of poppies.
I had recently discovered the unique and stunning creations of Christie Nicole Bridal and reached out to Christie to see if we could collaborate on a shoot, featuring one of her incredible pieces. We were so happy to work with Christie and feature the “Lily” gown, a “strapless A-line gown with large train through the centre back. Equal parts elegance and drama crafted from a textured feather tulle giving it a sense of fluidity in movement”.
We asked the beautiful Holly, a very talented illustrator and the creator of Paper Hands, if she would like to wear this exquisite Christie Nicole creation and we also had the pleasure of working with talented makeup artist, Sabrina Walsh, whose work is always flawless.
With an incredible team assembled, we set about planning a sunlit, outdoor shoot. However, much to our dismay the forecast was suggesting that some wild weather was going to hit right when we had planned the photoshoot. With poppies already ordered and a beautiful dress already in our hands we didn’t want to postpone, so we scrambled to find an undercover option. Thankfully, we could lock in Fort Lytton, literally the day before and the shoot could go ahead.
We really wanted to showcase the floating, feathery texture of the “Lily” gown, so we explored movement, asking Holly to walk quickly and move in the dress. Fortunately for us the rain held off and we could utilise the wind of the building storm outside, the wind seemed to move in just the right way, picking up the feathers and Holly’s hair, adding a level of moodiness and drama to the images.
This photoshoot wasn’t exactly what we had planned, but one of our favourite parts of creating is the unexpected and the unplanned, simply following a feeling and seeing what happens. We’re so grateful for Christie, Holly, Maddie and Sabrina for working with us and allowing us to create. We get such a kick out of working with such talented creatives.
