With a unique combination of raw industrial and purpose-built design features, the aptly named Lightspace found on Light St in Fortitude Valley, is an incredible space with limitless possibilities. This edgy, vine covered building is one of Brisbane’s coolest wedding venues.
Starting life as a smash repair workshop, Lightspace was lovingly converted to a wedding venue twelve years ago. Inspired by the warehouse parties he’d helped organise in London and Barcelona, owner John Macdonald saw an opportunity to create something similar in Brisbane. Since that time the incredible team at Lightspace have hosted countless weddings and used their extensive experience to help couples create their dream event.
The open floor plan and expanse of space means this venue can accommodate a great range of weddings and styles. The Main Space is large enough for a 200 person ceremony. There is a Bar Lounge for hosting arrival drinks and mingling post ceremony, before revealing a sumptuous dinner setting in the Main Space. We have seen this work seamlessly, where the Main Space is set for a beautiful ceremony, then afterwards everyone can relax in the Bar Lounge and enjoy canapés and cocktails while the Main Space is being transformed into an incredible reception space, with all of the work happening behind floor to ceiling curtains, making the reveal rather spectacular.
There's also a lovely garden terrace area and bridal deck with city views. Food trucks can even serve from inside the venue - a unique point of difference. Much like its vine covered exterior, Lightspace is also filled with greenery, there are plants in every corner and window sill, which makes for a really cool vibe already. The Barn Lounge in particular is filled with plants and comfy couches and plenty of places to sit and kind of feels like a New York loft, it’s cosy and cool, so you know your guests would feel comfortable even if it’s raining outside. It really does help with peace of mind, when you book a venue that is just as wonderful on a sunny day as it is when the weather is less than ideal.
Lightspace includes a Wedding Coordinator that can help make all of the planning, on the day setup and coordination a breeze. You also don’t need to go far when thinking about photo locations, the building itself is a really cool backdrop and out on the street makes for cool portraits with an urban vibe.
Lightspace is truly a unique venue and in our opinion, has just the right amount of interesting features and design, striking a good balance between a blank canvas and a distinct style, so that you can still come in and make the space your own. The team at Lightspace are incredibly experienced and always a joy to work with, helping make wedding days stress free and memorable for all the right reasons.
