5 Reasons we love Engagement Shoots
You’re engaged! Congrats! Now what? Of course there’s a wedding to plan, but your engagement season is definitely worth recognising as an incredible moment in your relationship too. Why not celebrate with an Engagement Photoshoot? There are so many reasons this is a great idea.
Calm those nerves
This in our opinion, is the biggest benefit of having an engagement shoot - it can help calm any nerves or anxiety around being photographed. An engagement shoot provides the opportunity for you to meet us, get a feel for how we work, actually experience what it’s like to be photographed by us and then the reassurance of seeing flattering images of yourself when you receive your engagement photos. By spending some time together we all get to know each other a little more, so we’re not strangers on your wedding day and this can help you relax around us, which in turn helps us create beautiful and honest photos of you and your love.
We asked one of our beautiful couples, Demi and Lewis about their experience of having an engagement shoot…
How did you feel before the photo session? What were you anticipating?
We thought the engagement shoot might be intimidating but we were so wrong - it ended up being such a fun experience.
How did you feel at the start of the session and did this change throughout the session?
We were so nervous at the start. However, Trent and Jessie were both so lovely, they eased our nerves quickly so after a few clicks of the camera we started to relax.
How did you feel after the session when you saw the photos?
We were over the moon! We shared the online gallery with our families immediately. Seeing the photos from our engagement shoot got us even more excited about our wedding day.
Did having an engagement session impact how you felt about being photographed on your wedding day?
Definitely! It gave us an idea of what to expect and it eased our nerves about having our photos taken on the big day. On our wedding day we were not stressed about photos at all as we knew Trent and Jessie would blow us away again.
Would you recommend an engagement shoot to others?
110%!!! I would recommend couples book an engagement shoot with Trent and Jessie before their wedding day - you won't regret it!
2. Quality time
An engagement shoot is actually a great date idea. This isn’t your uncle with a “good” camera forcing you to smile on cue, this is you and your favourite person spending quality time together somewhere special and we just happen to be there capturing sweet moments unfold. Think about it, you’re never going to be in this season of your relationship again, you’ve said “yes”, you’re going to make it official and right now you get to celebrate that you have found the one you want to do life with, we think that’s worth documenting. You will have these sweet photos to look back on for years to come.
3. No time pressure
On a wedding day there is usually so much going on, it’s not about the photos, it’s about this incredibly significant moment where you’re making promises to the one you love and celebrating with your favourite people. But your engagement shoot, can be about the photos, you don’t have to worry about time restraints or missing out on spending time with your guests, you can simply enjoy this time with your love and get a feel for being photographed. You can even go to a location that you may not be able to go to for wedding photos because of distance. For example, you could have engagement photos somewhere in nature when your wedding will be in the city. This way you get the best of both worlds - beautiful photos of the two of you in the wild haha and wedding photos with a city vibe - this is exactly what Demi & Lewis did ;) you can check out their dreamy wedding photos here.
4. Photos with your fur baby
We love doggos! If your fur baby isn’t able to attend your wedding, feel free to bring them to your engagement photoshoot! It’s the perfect opportunity to get photos with such an important member of your family.
5. Photos for your invitations, wedding website or guest book
Your engagement photos are perfect for using in your invitations or save the date stationary, used throughout your wedding website or printed in your guest book. If you would love to use your engagement photos in this way, it’s a good idea to have your photo session at least 6 months prior to your wedding date, this way there’s plenty of time to receive your photos and print/share/use them however you wish.
