When husband and wife, Shane and Melissa, came across a 100 year old building in the heart of Fortitude Valley, that was due for demolition, they decided to give it a new life as Smoked Garage, an edgy wedding and event venue.
Previously a Lubritorium Factory (a facility where vehicles can be oiled), it would seem this three storey building was found by just the right people, with Melissa’s passion for architecture and interiors and Shane’s love of custom motorbikes, they have been able to transform the old factory, while paying homage to its history.
Melissa and Shane certainly had their work cut out for them. When they began the restoration process, there was no plumbing or electrical wiring, the front part of the building had burnt down, there was termite damage and the foundations were crumbling. However, it’s hard to believe all of this once you step inside and take in the incredibly eclectic, glamorous yet grungy, unique venue that is Smoked Garage.
Entering from street level, you find yourself in a space that feels like an edgy New York bar, the floor tiles have a fun vintage vibe and the space seems to go on forever, willing you to explore more. As you walk past the cafe and bar, beneath chandeliers and motorbikes, you might stumble upon a room filled with fairy lights, a very intimate and moody space for a wedding ceremony.
After walking up the large, industrial staircase to the top level, you will find a light filled space with a transparent ceiling and 300 year old timber flooring. This rooftop level is perfect for an elegant reception and seats 120 with room for a dance floor. The room features antique furniture, textured walls and beautiful windows.
From the detailed wallpapers and antique chandeliers, to the countless custom motorbikes and accessories, Smoked Garage truly is a one of a kind venue. This Brisbane wedding venue is a hidden gem, perfect for anyone seeking an intimate vibe in a space already full of character and ambience.
