High Church // Unique Brisbane Wedding Venue

steeped in history and steeples

On the edge of Fortitude Valley and New Farm you will find a character rich, quirky church building turned unique Brisbane Wedding Venue. Think quaint church vibes, but make it modern and a little edgy, High Church is a playful mix of old and new, perfect for anyone looking for a unique wedding venue.

Built in 1876, this striking, heritage listed building was initially the Fortitude Valley Primitive Methodist Church. In 1977 the congregation joined the Uniting Church and combined with the Fortitude Valley Presbyterian Church, before the building was sold to the Queensland Potters Association In 1982. In 2005 a major project was undertaken to construct a gallery space below the church, which opened in 2008 and closed in 2010. The gallery space operated as a French bistro, for a period, then in early 2014, the property was purchased in its entirety and transformed into the incredible venue it is today.

Positioned at the elevated end of the street, High Church melds into the fabric of Brisbane’s entertainment precinct, overlooking Fortitude Valley and James St one way and glimpsing The Story Bridge the other. The venue offers three unique spaces in one convenient location - The Church, The Rooftop Terrace and The Gallery. With multiple spaces meaning there is always a wet weather option, so there’s no need to keep checking your weather app.

The Church has to be the real gem, with stained glass windows throwing gorgeous colours against the classic white interior and polished floorboards, with antique arched windows and chandeliers filling the space with more beautiful light, this space truly is something special.

The Rooftop Terrace is directly outside the Church, overlooking Brunswick Street, it’s perfect for mingling, grazing and champagne post ceremony.

The Gallery sits on street level and boasts a modern art deco interior with genuine Versace furniture, it’s another unique space for those seeking a contemporary and intimate vibe. All spaces have wheelchair access, air-conditioning and fur babies are absolutely welcome.

The convenience of having your wedding all in one location is really underrated and can make all the difference for the flow of your day. Imagine starting with your ceremony in the Church, followed by drinks on the Rooftop Terrace or in The Gallery downstairs, meanwhile, the amazing events team reset the Church for your Reception for you to celebrate and party the night away.

If you like the idea of getting married in a church, but still want the freedom to make the space your own, High Church really does give you this unique opportunity. It is a well run and polished venue, offering something that hints at tradition and history, but feels modern and fun.
